Prof Justin Beilby
Prof Beilby is the former Executive Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Adelaide and commenced the role of Vice-Chancellor at Torrens University Australia in 2015. With over a decade of experience as Executive Dean, Prof Beilby is a qualified practicing General Practitioner who has been widely recognised as a leader in primary care and general practice reform in Australia for the last twenty years – including leading the academic development of a new Medical and Nursing School in the South Australian Health and Biomedical Precinct over the last two years.
As a member of the Senior Management team of the University of Adelaide, Prof Beilby was involved in managing extensive change within the University. In addition to overseeing all academic, educational and research programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, health sciences and psychology he was also heavily involved in clinical and policy related research in the areas of workplace planning, primary care financing, chronic illness and the quality use of medicines.
Prof Beilby has broad international experience in establishing educational and research partnerships in the United States, Middle East, China, Japan and South East Asia, and has been appointed to a number of Boards, Working Groups and Committees, including as President of the Medical Deans of Australia and New Zealand (2011-2013), a clinical lead in the development of Health Workforce Australia’s National Training Plan, one of twelve Commissioners for the National Health and Hospital Reform Commission which developed a new model for the Australian healthcare system, and as Independent Chair of the Medical Benefits Scheme Item Restructure Working Group.
